Police have busted an extremists' hideout at North Bishil in city's Mirpur area and seized some arms and ammunitions but failed to arrested anyone.

Police on information, raided a residence in Shah Ali Mazar area and seized a Sub-machinegun (SMG), fully-loaded pistol, grenades and several kilograms of gunpowder.

The OC also confirmed that they recovered an SMG rifle, a foreign automatic pistol, 18 rounds of ammunition, a grenade, 36 empty cases of grenade, 40 kilograms of gun-powder, three bags of metal splinter, hundreds of bomb-timers (clocks) and a bomb-making formula.

Police entered the room after breaking the lock and recovered the arms and ammunitions. The law enforcers also seized some books on Islamic revolution from the room.

Mosharraf Hossain, the owner of the house told reporters that the four young men identifying themselves as traders of electronic goods had rented the room on June 4 at Tk 2,400 per month. They have paid one month's rent in advance.

"In the beginning of July we asked for photographs and ID cards of all the tenants, said Mosharraf. However, the tenants were found missing and the room locked from July 15.

After visiting the spot the DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Huq told reporters that the police were certain that this was an extremists hideout and that the police were working on it.

The DMP commissioner speculated that "It might be the people who don't want the war crimes trial and we are looking into al possibilities.

Referring to recovery of clocks, the commissioner said "they (extremists) might be used for making time-bombs. He also said the amount of gun power was sufficient to make more than a hundred grenades.
