Autistic children’s painting exhibition begins Staff Reporter In Bangladesh, there is a common perception among general people that autistic people are disabled, incompetent and incapable. Through this event Help Autism Now Society (HANS) wants to provide the general people with the right information about autism and autistic children that they are not disabled, they are creative. In this exhibition, the paintings will be put on sale and the total amount earned will be given to the boy/girl who painted that. This will give a social recognition to the Autistic child as an artist. Besides, by selling the paintings HANS will establish that people who are being neglected by the society can earn like general people through their talents. Chairman of HANS Meer Sohrabul Hossain said this at the inauguration of a week-long art exhibition by the autistic children in the city. The exhibition titled 'Emerged from Unknown II' featuring works by autistic children began at Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi in the city on Friday. Professor of the Department of Printmaking of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University Prof Abul Barq Alvi inaugurated the exhibition, organised by HANS, as chief guest. More than 60 paintings of special children from various special schools are on display in the show. Aiming to promote the talents in the autistic children, the organisers organised a cultural programme titled 'Share with Innocence V' on August 6 at 3:30pm at the auditorium of LGED Bhaban at Agargaon in the city. Autistic Students from SWID Bangladesh, SWAC, SGC, Kalyani, Caring Glory and AWF will perform at the cultural programme that will be followed by a prize giving ceremony, according to the organisers. The exhibition remains open for all from 3:00pm to 8:00pm till July 22.
