Crime in districts on rise



UNB, Sylhet

Some unidentified assailants at Ghargaon village in Rajnagar upazila slaughtered a teenage boy on early Sunday. The victim was identified as Watir Ali, 13, son of Yiad Ali of the village. Police quoting locals said that Watiur went missing since he went out of his house on Saturday afternoon. Later, local people found his slaughtered body dumped on the bank of Machhu river on Sunday morning.

UNB, Barisal reports that a mobile court in a drive at the Barisal town on Monday fined 14 people for smoking in public places. The mobile court led by Administrative Magistrate Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman launched anti-smoking drive at Fazlul Huq Avenue, Port Road, DC Office, Post Office, land revenue office Court Compound areas of the town on Monday noon. The court fined 14 people Tk 50 each as there were found smoking in public places.

UNB, Naogaon: Police arrested three members of an inter-district dacoit gang from Gazipur and Natore districts on Monday. The names of the arrested persons are Mozam Hossain, 55, Rabiul Islam, 25 and Nazmul Haque Bakul, 27. Earlier, in January, a gang of robbers swooped on motorcyclist Sidur Rahman and took away his motorbike and cash at gun point at Mathpukuria Bhanga Bridge in Adamdighi upazila of the district

Later, Sidur filed a case with the local police station in his connection.

Acting on the secret information, Adamdighi thana police conducted a raid at Jinoir village in Shafipur of Gazipur district and arrested two accused dacoits-Mozam and Rabiul on Saturday night According to their statements, police later arrested another accused Nazmul Haque Bakul from Dighapatia in Natore Sadar upazila on Sunday night Police later seized two motorcycles at Machhdighi village in Lalpur upazila of Natore district

UNB, Savar: A team of Rapid Action Batalion (RAB), in a drive on Monday evening, arrested a woman drug peddler along with a shuter-gun and eight bombs at Khasrurbagh adjacent to Savar bus stand. Based on secret information, a team of RAB-4 conducted the drive at drug trader Munna's house and arrested Juli Begum along with a shuter-gun and eight bombs.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, eight to ten accomplices of Munna managed to flee with huge heroin. Juli's father and sister were arrested recently along with heroin and now they are in Dhaka central jail. A case was filed.
