3 including Keraniganj :OC sued for death in custody Staff Reporter Three officials of Keraniganj Police Station, including the Officer-in-Charge, were sued on Monday for the death in custody of a murder suspect last week. Manik Mia alias Lutfar, 38, died in the custody of Keraniganj police on February 1. Adu Miah, father of victim Lutfur Rahman Miah, alias Manik, filed the case with Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate's court against Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman, Sub-Inspector Zahidur Rahman and Assistant Sub Inspector Harun ur Rashid, alleging that his son was tortured to death while in police custody. The complainant in his case statement alleged that Manik died following torture in police custody. Adu Miah appealed for investigation of the case through the Criminal Investigation department of police. Earlier, Keraniganj police claimed that Manik Mia, an accused in a murder case and arrested along with two others on January 31, committed suicide in a toilet of the police station. Police later filed a case of unnatural death. After the victim's father filed the case on Monday, Magistrate Shahriar Arafat asked for the file of the previous case, filed by police. Police said Manik was arrested on January 31 and committed suicide some time after midnight, but his father said he was arrested days ago. Keraniganj police had retrieved the burnt body of Nazma, a woman from Maniknagar under Hazratpur, on the evening of January 13. Nazma's sister, Mamtaz, filed a murder case and Manik was arrested as a suspect.
