Child Hospital to be built in Rajshahi

Initiative has been taken to build a full-fledged Shishu (Child) Hospital in Rajshahi metropolis, one of the major election pledges of Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and long-cherished demand of Rajshahi people. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already directed the Bangladesh Child Health Institute (BCHI) to take necessary measures to build a Shishu hospital in the Rajshahi divisional headquarters.

A four-member BCHI delegation led by its Academic Director Prof Dr MK Azad Chowdhury shared views with Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton at latter's office here on Friday relating to launching the preliminary works. Presenting a detailed facts sheet of the proposed hospital, the delegation members sought all-out cooperation of the mayor regarding establishment of the hospital successfully.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said that the children of the poor and marginalized families suffer a lot due to lack of a Shishu hospital here and urged the delegation members to expedite the preliminary works so that the hospital could be established as soon as possible.

In the meeting, a committee was formed for building the hospital. Mayor Liton was made the chief patron of the committee.

The delegation members were included Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Dr Abdul Hannan, former principal and head of pediatrics department of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) Prof Dr AB Siddikey and Assistant Prof Dr Mohibbul Hassan of surgery department of RMCH.
