Hasina’s Delhi visit postponed: Foreign Minister refers to threat Staff Reporter
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India scheduled for December 19 has been postponed. Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni made this announcement yesterday while briefing reporters at the Ministry yesterday. She said the Prime Minister's four-day visit to India was not possible on December 19 as both the Bangladesh and Indian Prime Minister would join the Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change on December 18, a day ahead of the planned visit. The Foreign Minister said now the Prime Minister's visit may defer to January 10 and 11.  |

Speaker urged world leaders to take climate change action and support vulnerable countries at the opening session at the Bella conference centre in the Danish capital. Pachauri, chairman of the Inter Governmental Panel of Climate Change, urged to all to stand beside the vulnerable country such as Bangladesh.  |

Bangladesh will press for a legally binding agreement at Copenhagen summit for deep cuts in carbon emissions and a dedicated fund for helping the most vulnerable countries in adaptation to the calamitous climate change, as world leaders began converging on the Danish capital to deal with the most pressing problem of the present times. "We want binding commitment from big climate-polluter nations," Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said at a press briefing at her Ministry on Monday afternoon.  |

Compensation from industrial countries demanded Staff Reporter
Different organisations yesterday organised programmes in the city raising the demand for compensation from the industrial and developed countries responsible for climate change and marking the Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change. Campaign for Good Governance (Supra) formed a human chain in front of National Museum to draw the attention of international community to the negative impacts of climate change.
