Court Correspondent

Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba member Abdul Majid Butt alias Abu Yusuf Butt yesterday made confessional statement about his involvement in the 21 August grenade attack incident.

The prosecution produced Majid before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on completion of his police remand for 12 days in different terms to record his confessional statement while Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque recorded the confessional statement in his official chamber.

Abu Yusuf Butt was placed on a two-day fresh remand Thursday to interrogate him about the grenade attack on August 21, 2004. After CID produced him before the Court with a prayer for a three-day fresh remand on December 3, Metropolitan Magistrate Rashed Kabir placed him on a two-day remand. He had been placed on remand for 12 days in different terms in the case.

CID had said Majid allegedly came to Bangladesh years ago with the help of Lashker-e-Taiba leader Moulana Tajuddin, an accused of this case and took the name Abdul Majid to stay in Bangladesh and carry out militant activities.
