Bi-annual coference of BNP held at Babuganj

The bi-annual conference of Babuganj Upazila Unit of BNP was held in a befitting manner recently at Rahmatpur High School premises. Selima Rahman, Former Minister and Joint Secretary General of BNP Central Committee, inaugurated the convention while Advocate Mozibur Rahman Sarwar, MP, was present as the chief guest in the convention. Abul Kalam Azad, Convenor of the convening committee, presided over the ceremony with Sarfuddin Ahmed Santu, Joint Convenor of Barisal District BNP, Nazrul Islam Khan Ranjan, AHM Saleh, Wahidul Islam Prince, Mosharraf Hossain, Ishrat Hossain Kanchi, Abdul Karim Hawlader, Farid Hossain and Murshidul Bari Parvej addressing the the conference. A new committee of Babuganj Upazila BNP was elected with Ishrat Hossain Kanchi as President and Wahidul Islam Prince as General Secretary. A huge number leaders and activists of BNP Babuganj unit and adjacent areas swarmed to the conference venue.



Husband kills wife at Kamatpara



Satkhira: A housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Kamatpara village in Debhata upazila on Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as Bijoli Mondal, 18, wife of Anup Mondal of the village. Police said that Anup married Bijoli, daughter of Sontosh Kumar Mondal of Kamalkathi village in Shyamnagar upazila, five years back. Since then Anup and his family members used to torture her on flimsy excuses.On the fateful morning, Anup picked up a quarrel with Bijoli over a trifling matter and at one stage he beat her mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot. After the incident Anup and his father Provash Mondal went into hiding. Victim's father filed a murder case with the police, reports UNB.



One sentenced to 17 years RI

A trial court in Barisal sentenced an accused to 17 years rigorous imprisonment in two separate arms cases on Tuesday afternoon. The accused was Mustafa Howladar, son of Ansar Ali Howladar, from Jharjharia Tala Mukundapatty area of the city. Md. Shahidullah, Judge of the Special Tribunal-1 of Barisal after examining 10 out of 14 witnesses and the relative evidences handed down the verdict under section 19(a) and seven years RI under section 19 (f) of Arms Act in presence of the accused. Prosecution said that a team of Rapid Action Batalion-8 raiding the house of Mustafa on early October 10, 2007 arrested him and recovered one shutter gun with one cartridge and two air guns from his possession. Assistant Sub Inspector Zakir Hossain of RAB-8 as complainant lodged a case under Arms Act against Mustafa with Barisal Kotwali Model Police station on the same day. Sub Inspectors Gopal Krishna and Anwar Hossain, investigated the case and submitted charge sheet on November 14, 2007.
