Computer knowledge for national advancement underscored BSS, Dhaka State Minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology Architect Yafesh Osman on Friday said the present and future generations would have to be computer literate to build a knowledge-based society. Science education and knowledge of computer are essential for national advancement, he said while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of Bangla-English duel mode calculator invented by two students of North-South University (NSU). Bangla Technologies organised the function at the Jatiya Press Club. The state minister appreciated the invention of the calculator and said the government will give all cooperation in this regard. The practice of technology would have to be in the mother tongue, he said and added that the benefit of digital Bangladesh should be for all. Yafesh Osman said the final verdict in the case for killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has freed the nation of its stigma. Presided over by Khandaker Sajedul Hassan, the function was also addressed by NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hafiz GA Siddiqui and Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-ar Rashid as special guests. The duel mode calculator can be used in Bangla and English languages. This invention will make computing easier to missions of people in the country. This calculator is the outcome of a yearlong research by NSU students Gazi Nayeem and Sayeed Islam with cooperation of senior lecturer Khandaker Sajedul Hassan. The new calculator would be marketed after the Eid-ul Azda and a portion of the money to be earned will be spent for welfare of the freedom fighters.
