AL observes 'Sukrana Dibas’

The ruling Awami League yesterday observed "Sukrana Dibas" in the city and elsewhere in the country to express gratitude to Almighty Allah following the historic verdict of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upholding the capital punishment of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.

The Sukrana Dibosh programme included holding of special doa, milad mahfil and munajat in mosques and special prayers were held at temples and churches across the country.

During the special munajat and prayers, party leaders and activists and devotees expressed their gratitude to Almighty Allah over the verdict in the Bangabandhu murder case.

They sought eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other members of his family who were brutally killed on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.

The devotees also prayed for good health and long life of Prime Minister and AL chief Sheikh Hasina as well as peace, progress and prosperity of the nation and the country.

As part of the programme, special milad mahfil and munajat were held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after juma prayers yesterday.

A large number of AL leaders and activists and devotees took part in the munajat.

AL general secretary and Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Syed Ashraful Islam, Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, among others, joined the milad mahfil and munajat.

Maulana Oliur Rahman Khan, acting Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram conducted the munajat. Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation ATM Inamul Haque moderated the function.

Meanwhile, a special prayer was held at Dhakeswari National Temple seeking the eternal peace of departed souls of the Father of the Nation and his family members.

Minister for Water Resources Ramesh Chandra Sen, Suranjit Sengupta, MP, AL leaders Satish Chandra Roy, Mukul Bose, Biren Sikdar, MP and Sadhan Majumdar, MP, journalist Swapan Kumar Saha, Sadhana Haldar, MP, Noni Gopal Mondal, MP, Monoranjan Shil, MP, Professor Apu Ukil, MP, Dr Durga Das Bhattacharya, among others, joined the prayer.

Our correspondents from different divisional headquarters and districts, report that social milad mahfil and munajat were held in mosques after the juma prayers and special prayers were held at temples and churches.

Local leaders and activists of the respective area took part in the milad mahfil and munajat.
