Commentary: Judgement is of historic significance

The Supreme Court dismissed Thursday the appeals of five convicts in the Bangabandhu Murder case against the High Court's upholding the verdict of the lower court sentencing 15 to the gallows for murdering Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with the members of his family. The verdict is of historic significance. The decision has paved the way for punishment of those responsible for the August 15, 1975 killings. It has also changed the notion that the 1975 changeover was the outcome of a mutiny.
Attorney-General Mahbubey Alam has called the judgment "epoch-making".
