Future of Commonwealth

I am writing from the Royal Commonwealth Society, the largest and oldest civil society organisation devoted to the Commonwealth of Nations, based in London. We are currently working on an exciting interactive project called 'The Commonwealth Conversation', which is intended to be the largest public consultation ever undertaken on the Commonwealth, particularly focused on why the organisation is seen to be failing and why it seems increasingly sidelined in international affairs. We will be presenting our findings at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Trinidad later this month.

The centrepiece of this global consultation is our website www.thecommonwealthconversation.org, where Commonwealth citizens can share opinions on topics such as the role of sport in uniting the Commonwealth, and the role of the Commonwealth in promoting democracy in Africa.

One of the current highlights on our website is a short video where the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Dr. Msayeedur Khan, explains the devastating impact climate change will have, and is indeed already having, on Bangladesh. We would be delighted, and most grateful, if you were able to publicise the link to this interview http://www.thecommonwealthconversation.org/2009/11/bangladesh-on-the-frontline-against-climate-change/ to any members, readers, students or contacts you may have. We are very keen for the people of Bangladesh to be represented on this vital issue of climate change and for them to engage in the debate over the future of the Commonwealth.
