Another Huda nephew held, Mehnaz in jail

The Detective Branch(DB) police could not so far dig out any crucial information from Khandaker Mehnaz Rashid in connection with the bomb attack on Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, MP, her counsel claimed yesterday.

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Mehnaz Rashid, daughter of Lt Col (retd) Khandaker Abdur Rashid, a convict of Bangabandhu murder case was sent to jail rejecting her bail prayer. But the court ordered for providing her medical treatment.

Mehnaz Rashid, was taken for 13 days remand by Detective Branch (DB) police in three phases.

However, police claimed to have obtained some valuable information from her during the interrogation.

Meanwhile, Police on Saturday night picked up another nephew of Bangabandhu murder case convict Bazlul Huda from his residence at Kathuli in Meherpur Sadar upazila for interrogation in connection with the bomb attack on Taposh. The detainee was identified as Ariful Azim Habib, 35, son of late Anwarul Azim. Habib was in Malaysia during 2001-2004 and on return he got involved in agricultural activities.

Habib's father late Anwarul Azim a retired teacher of Meherpur Government High School, was a cousin of Major Bazlul Huda.

Rabiul Islam officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar police station told reporters that they have detained Habib for interrogation as per direction from the higher authority. He has not been shown arrested yet, the OC said.

Earlier, police arrested seven people for their suspected links with the bomb attack on Taposh, and five of them are family members of convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The DB police are interrogating Ataul Huda, another nephew of condemned convict Bazlul Huda.

Kamrul Haque Swapan, younger brother of Major (retd) Shariful Haq Dalim, Freedom Party leader Abdur Rahim, former organizing secretary of Freedom Party Sheikh Shafiullah Sofu, another condemned convict Lt Col (rtd) Mohiuddin Ahmed's two sons Nazmul Hasan Sohel and Mahbubul Hasan Emran are now in jail.

Taposh came under the bomb attack on the night of October 21

that left at least 13 people injured. Taposh, however, escaped unhurt.
