Changing climate of Rajshahi The climate of Rajshahi region has been undergoing significant change not only for green house effect, but also for withdrawal of water from the river of Padma at Farakka of West Bengal by India. At night people of Rajshahi need to use warm clothes though the winter has not yet been heralded. This is the sign of desert climate. The river Padma, which in the past flowed to the brim most of the time of the year, now remains dry conversely. Anyone can wade through the little water to the other side of the riverbank. For being dry, the fishermen pass idle time and thereby pass hard days. Apart from it, the crop output may be affected, underground water is disappearing and the crisis of pure drinking water is surfacing. The government may have sincerity to get its due share of water but that cannot be achieved so easily. At the same time, if the Tipaimukh Project in Monipur, India is implemented, the whole of Bangladesh will be in great catastrophe. Anyway, we shall be happy should the government think over the matter seriously. Asma Akhter Rajshahi
