Our Correspondent, Barisal

The Awami League, its associate organisations and different socio-cultural and professional bodies observed the Jail Killing Day at Barisal on Tuesday, paying homage to the four national heroes and front-ranking leaders of the Bangladesh government in exile. For this, elaborate programmes were chalked out.

They marked the day by holding various programmes, including hoisting of the national, party, and black flags at Aswani Kumar Hall premises and party offices in the city and wearing black badges on Tuesday morning.

The party leaders, including BCC Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron, AL MP Talukdar Md. Yunus, former Chief Whip Abul Hsanat Abdullah, placed flowers at the portraits of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman, who were killed on November 3, 1975 inside the Dhaka central jail, where they were detained after the assassination of the country's founding President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975. The leaders also placed floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,

The party's district acting president Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman presided over while the senior leaders addressed the discussion programme held at Bar-isal Aswani Kumar Hall in the afternoon.

The speakers called on the government to execute the court verdicts in the Mujib murder and jail killing cases as early as possible to end the politics of terrorism and foil conspiracies of anti-liberation forces and religious extremists.
