Jail killing day observed in Rajshahi: Rapid trial of killers demanded RU Correspondent 'Anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu and the four national leaders to create leadership crisis in Bangladesh and the last device was grenade attack on a AL rally in Dhaka in 2004. We have to remain vigilant against the killers and their accomplices, who are still engineering conspiracies to make the county unstable.' This was the general view of the speakers at a rally held under the banner of Progressive Teachers Society (PTS) at Rajshahi University. PTS convener Prof Muzaffar Ahmed said that the people of Bangladesh were in favour of rapid trial of the killers who murdered our national leaders in jail and opposed slow progress of the case. He called the government to take initiatives to try the jail killing case through fair reinvestigation that the killers were requited. Several hundred teachers, students and employees took part in the rally, which paraded important streets of the campus before ending at the university Shaheed Minar. The day was also observed in several places of Rajshahi city with renewed pledge on Tuesday. Awami League (AL) of Rajshahi city unit placed wreaths at the grave of AHM Quamruzzaman, one of the four national leaders killed in jail on November 3. They also organised Quaran khani and doa mahfil at the graveyard of national leader AHM Quamruzzaman. Rajshahi City AL Vice President Rafique Uddin in a statement called the countrymen to remain alert against the anti-liberation forces. The speakers termed the jail killing as a plot to grab state power unconstitutionally. They also demanded exemplary punishment to the killers of four national leaders namely Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman--the forerunners in county's war of independence. Rajshahi city unit acting General Secretary Shafikur Rahman Badsha, and among the leaders, Mustak Hossain and Moutafizur Rahman delivered lecture. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), RU unit, also brought out a rally and placed wreath at the grave of AHM Quamruzzaman at Kadirganag graveyard in the city. Bangabandhu Parishad of RU unit organized a condolence meeting and recalled the contribution of four national heroes. Fine Arts Department of RU prepared a day-long artistic exhibition marking the day while Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the programme. The day was also observed at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Government College and New Government Degree College in the city.
