OIC Secretary General Prof Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Friday called on BNP Chairperson and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, foreign adviser to BNP chairperson, said they discussed about the special role of Al-Quds Committee of OIC during the rule of late president Ziaur Rahman. Bangladesh is a member of the Al-Quds Committee.

Begum Zia laid stress on reactivating the Al-Quds Committee to make its function more effective.

She urged the OIC to play an effective role in stopping repression on the Palestinians by Israel.

Begum Zia extended her support to the 57-member OIC in addressing the Palestinian issue as well as consolidating the unity of the Muslim world.

She hoped that the OIC would play an effective role in uniting the Muslim world.

Dr Ishanoglu recalled with deep respect the role and involvement of Khaleda Zia in strengthening the OIC during her premiership.

BNP secretary general Khandakar Delwar Hossain and adviser to the BNP chairperson Reaz Rahman were present at the meeting.
