Saifur Rahman’s contributions eulogised Staff Reporter The Jalalabad Association, a Dhaka-based organisation of Sylhet people, at a meeting yesterday paid homage to former finance minister M Saifur Rahman. Presided over by president of the organisation Dr CM Delwar Rana, the meeting was held at the Engineers Institution in the city. Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury conducted the meeting while it was addressed among others, by former advisers to the caretaker government Dr Akbar Ali Khan and Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam, former minister and BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman, Awami League leader and lawmaker Suranjit Sen Gupta, former state minister Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury, Awami League leader Sultan Mohammad Mansur, Akbar Hossain Monju and Abdur Rakib Khan, on the life and contributions of Saifur Rahman. The speakers said that every nation has some valiant sons who contribute to the nation. Saifur Rahman is one of the valiant sons of Bangladesh and his contribution for the country and country's economy is more. So he should be recognised and evaluated for his outstanding works, they added. They also said that he was a visionary economist and introduced the new mode of taxation value added tax. He believed in democracy but always spoke straight forward, they added.
