BNP observes November 7 Revolution Day: AL as FF killing day

Main opposition BNP has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the November 7 as 'the National Revolution and Solidarity Day' marking the people and soldiers upsurge held in 1975.

The programmes includes hoisting party flag at party's central office at 6 am, mazar jiarat and laying floral wreaths at the mazar of party founder Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman at 10 am at city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

A discussion will also be held at the Institute of Engineers at 3 pm.

Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia along with its top leaders will lead the mazar going team and be present at the discussion, said party insiders.

In separate statements, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the party's Secretary General Khondker Delwar Hossain yesterday asked the party leaders and activists to make the programme success.

Terming the day as the gateway of country's democracy and development, Khaleda urged the patriotic people and national forces to keep alert to save country's independence, sovereignty and democracy as there was still a conspiracy going.

"The imperialist forces are trying to grab country's sovereignty and its local agents are engaged to satisfy their masters," she said.

BNP like other social and political organisations including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam will observe the day as 'the National Revolution and Solidarity Day'.

Jamaat-e-Islam, Dhaka city unit, will organise a discussion today at 4 pm at the National Press Club to mark the day where its Ameer Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami will be present as chief guest, a press release said.

National People's Party (NNP) will observe the day through a discussion at its central office.

Earlier, NAP Bhasani organised a discussion at its central office on November 6 in this regard.

Meanwhile, the government announced that it sees the day as 'killing day of freedom fighters.

The ruling Awami League and its front organisations have taken elaborate programmes to observe the day as killings day of freedom fighters.

Bangabandhu Sang-skritik Jote, according to a press release, will arrange rally and human chain in front of Awami League central office demanding trial of the killers of freedom fighters on November 7. Ministers of the government and party leaders will participate in the programmes, the press release said.

Bangladesh Awami Muktijodha League's rally and Panchattarer Ghatack Dalal Nirmul Committee's discussion in this regard will be held at central Shaheed Minar and AL's central office respectively.

Amra Muktijodhar Santan will also arrange the same programme at High Court mazar to mark the day.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) will observe the day as 'upsurge day of Soldiers- People'.

In a statement, JSD urged the government to reinstate the day as public holiday.

The party has taken many programmes which includes a discussion at the National Press Club.

Bangladesh Socialist Party (BSP) will observe the 92nd founding anniversary of Russian Revolution and 29th of its founding anniversary on this day.

The former BNP government made this day as pubic holiday from 1976 and 2001 except last Awami League government's tenure.

But previous AL government cancelled the holiday which was resumed by the four party alliance government.

Later, the last caretaker government cancelled the holiday that was protested by BNP.
