Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad on Thursday said the mass media would have to play more responsible role in upholding the peoples rights.

He was speaking at an award giving ceremony on investigative journalism at BRAC center in the city organized by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

Through investigative journalism, Azad said, the inner truth should be highlighted in the interest of the people, an official release said here.

He said the media would have to work for the advancement of the nation and the country by rising above party politics.

Azad urged media to play a stronger role in creating public awareness on different issues, building public opinion and identifying mistakes of the government to build a prosperous nation.

Editor of the daily Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman also spoke on the occasion with TIB Chairman M Hafiz Uddin Khan in the chair.
