Shows planned in USA, UK, S’pore for FDI in energy sector Shamim Jahangir
The government will hold three separate road shows in London, New York and Singapore from December 15 to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) for 10 large power plants and two LNG stations. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to attend the opening ceremony of the road show in London on December 15. The two-day London road show will begin on December 15. The two-day road show in New York will start on December 18 while the two-day road show in Singapore will begin on December 21.  |
Naeem powers Bangladesh to narrow win

An unprecedented 73 (not out) by Naeem Islam guided Bangladesh to earn a thrilling one-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their fifth and final ODI at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Thursday. By virtue of yesterday's victory, Bangladesh clinched the five-match Grameenphone ODI Series by 4-1. Naeem Islam played 90 deliveries in his unconquered 103-minute innings, which was ornamented with four sixers and four fours. It was Naeem's maiden ODI half century in his career so far. Naeem fulfilled his half century using 80 deliveries amid three fours and three sixes and was adjudged Man of the Match.  |
Implement minimum wage in garment factories: PM Industrial police, intelligence force on cards

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to implement the minimum wage scale in all its member-factories, as she announced major measures for the export industry's security, growth, and financial and marketing facilities. "Many of the BGMEA-member factories are implementing the minimum wage. But, at the same time, many other factories are not implementing the minimum wage. I urge these factories to implement the wage," she said addressing the inaugural ceremony of the three-day 20th Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO) 2009 at Sonargaon Hotel.  |

Ataul Huda, a nephew of death sentence convict of Bangabandhu murder case Major (retd) Bazlul Huda who was arrested in connection with the bomb attack on Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, MP, is a poor farmer who never saw him (Bazlul Huda) in his life. Detective Branch (DB) police arranged a press briefing at its office yesterday, where Ataul Huda said that he had never seen Bazlul Huda. He said he has only heard the name of Bazlul Huda. He told newsmen before being produced before the court that he owns five-bigha land which he cultivates to maintain his family.  |
