Farm land, water bodies being lost Our Correspondent, Rupganj Hundreds of farm lands and water bodies of Rupganj upazila under Nara-yanganj district are being filled with sands and soil for building dwelling houses in the name of proposed Purbachal Project. In addition, more lands and mash like these close to the rivers of Balu and Sitalakhhaya are also being filled with sands for construction of houses. Small traders and the government employees from Narayanganj and Dhaka are choosing these houses, finding them both cheap and free from environment. Watching it, many real estate companies are assembling at Rupganj and taking massive projects. Abu Hossain Bhuiyan Ranu, Chairman of Rupganj Union council, said, "As the farm lands and water bodies are already lost, wild animals and birds are found leaving the areas. If the trend continues, someday or other, there will be no bird and wild animal in this upazila. MP Gazi Golam Dostagir said, "If any cropland owner sells his own property, there is little scope to prevent it."
