Milk production target not achieved in Barisal div Borguna Correspondent The government plans every year to develop the livestock and the poultry industries but in truth the plan is not fully reflected in the end. Weak management, inadequate allocation of fund, bird flu attack, attack of cattle by unidentified diseases and insufficient feed caused setback during the fiscal 2008-09 in the government's plan. The Division of Barisal witnessed production of liquid milk to the extent of 75,326 metric tonnes against the target of 1,50,000 metric tonnes, according to the sources of livestock office, meaning that the percentage of production was just over 50. Against the target of 36 crore eggs, the level of production was 22 crore 15 lakh and 64 thousand during the same fiscal year. Sources further said that 767 farms were set up against the target of 1,400, marking 55 percent triumph only. The department of livestock earned 58 percent success in giving vaccine to the cattle and 68 percent in respect of fowl. However, the target of producing meat worth 73 thousand metric tonnes was surpassed. Sources said that the development of livestock industry is possible in Borguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Bhola, Barisal and Jhalkathi districts and there are potentials in these districts.
