Staff Reporter

The Netherlands could help in river dredging and land reclamation in Bangladesh, Commerce Minister Mohammad Faruk Khan said yesterday.

"The Netherlands can help Bangladesh in land reclamation as the government decided to allocate lands to 25 landless families in each upazilas every year," he said while taking with the Ambassador of the Netherlands Alphons Hennekens in Bangladesh at his Secretariat office.

The Commerce Minister said the export earnings of the country in the last year were $15.5 billion despite world recession.

He said the prevailing conducive working environment, elimination of child labour in the factories and different welfare activities for the labourers helped to achieve 10.31 per cent export growth in the country.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands assured his country's continued support to enhance food production as well as to build silos in Bangladesh.
