BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday alleged that the government had started repression on his party's leaders and activists so that they could not raise their voice against the failure of the government. Protesting imposition of section 144 by the government obstructing a scheduled programme of Daudkandi BNP, he urged all sections of people to be united against the 'autocratic behavour of the government.

Dr Mosharraf was addressing a rally organised by Sundalpur Union BNP at Shaheed Nagar in Daudkandi on the eve of its council.

Earlier, the council programme was scheduled at Dhakargaon field but could not be held due to imposition of section 144.

The BNP leader said the Awami League led grand alliance government, scared of united forces of BNP, was trying to foil his party's council.

He said, the present government like past 'autocratic governments' would not be able to stay in power for long time if it continued undemocratic activities.

Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, convener of the union, presided over the programme while it was addressed, among others, by local BNP leader Shahjan Chowdhury, Nasir Uddin Ahmed, KMI Khalil and Jasim Uddin Ahmed.
