Pvt. medical colleges DG health to control admission

Along with government medical colleges, the Directorate of Health will also control admission process of private medical colleges across the country to stop trading with admission in private medical colleges.

As part of the initiative, admission test of 41 private medical colleges will be held on November 20 and the questions for all the medical colleges will be the same.

It was informed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at Sangsad Bhaban yesterday with its Chairman Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in the chair.

Briefing reporters, the committee Chairman said in the past some private medical colleges have done business with admission to their colleges taking advantage of the absence of any policy in this regard. . "That's why the government has decided to control the admission test of the private medical colleges from this year," he said.

Sheikh Selim, also a former health minister, said there was no policy to control the private medical colleges, diagnostic centres and clinics taking advantage of which some of them have done business in the name of treatment and pathological tests.

He said the standing committee asked the government to enact necessary laws to control over the activities of the medical colleges, diagnostic centres and clinics. "To this end, the standing committee will hold a view exchange meeting with private diagnostic centre and clinic owners," he said.

Sheikh Selim said the meeting discussed the ways and means to make the Drug administration effective and strong.

The meeting extended the time limit for the sub-committee to submit its report on examining standard of products of drug companies and probe the death of recent deaths of a number of children taking para cetamol syrup manufactured by a company.
