Conspiracies on to stop trial of killers: Shafique

Staff Reporter

Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed said yesterday that those who did not want to see the killers of Bangabandhu and the war criminals punished were engaged in destabilising the country by creating chaos and confusion.

"The bomb attack on MP Fazle Noor Taposh MP is a part of ongoing conspiracy to destabilise the country and providing protection to the killers of Bangabandhu," he said at the triennial general meeting of the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) Cooprerative Society at its office in Segun Bagicha in the capital.

The Law Minister said that no evil power could be able to subvert the trial of Bangabandhu murder.

"The trial of the killers of Bangabandhu will be carried out on the soils of this country. The war criminals will also be tried. Let there be no doubt about that," he mentioned.

State minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak said that the journalists work under various pressures amid great risks. He suggested that the DRU should have a dedicated committee to probe the incidents of oppression on reporters. He assured DRU of a plot of land for setting up a permanent office.

Shamim Ahmed, president of DRU said, people generally consider that journalists had any problem and none of them ever though of helping us. We all are in islands since most of the journalists do not have a house even.

Pothik Saha, general secretary of DRU said that the genuine journalists did not get residential plots. Non-journalists managed large plots by deploying various ploys.
