5th Asian Archery Grand Prix begins tomorrow

The 5th Asian Archery Grand Prix 2009, organized by Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF), begins tomorrow (Tuesday) at BKSP, Savar.

Information Minister Abul Kslam Azad will formally inaugurate the seven-day meet as chief guest.

Seven teams -- India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Hungary and host Bangladesh -- are participating in the men's and women's events of the meet.

The tournament included in two events -- "Recurb Bow" and "Compound Bow". Sixteen gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the winners.

Uttara Bank, the main sponsor of the meet, will provide Tk 28,52,300 of the total budget of Tk 41,31,150 while the rest will be met by the Federation and various co-sponsors to run the tournament.

BAF general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal gave the details of the competition at a press conference at the National Sports Council today.

Tournament committee chairman Gazi Golam Dastagir, federation vice president Maj Gen (retd) Sadik Hasan Rumi and 5th Asian Archery Grand Prix technical director Bahar Uddin Jamil also spoke at the press conference.
