Malaria kills UP member in

Bandarban

RANGAMATI, July 4 : Joandirr Bom, a member of Pansha Union Parishad of Ruma Upazila of Bandarban district died of malaria on Friday night. Hospital sources said Joandirr Bom, 43, died on way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Bom, a resident of Slopipara village, had been undergoing treatment at Bandarban Sadar Hospital for malaria. The physicians at the hospital referred the UP member to the CMCH as his condition deteriorated further. The sources said malaria usually takes an alarming turn during the rainy season in hard-to-reach areas of the district as the affected people cannot avail modern treatment facilities at hospitals at the district headquarters due to communication hazards, report BSS.

Mother, son killed in Manikganj road accident

MANIKGANJ, July 4 : A mother and her son were killed in an accident at Barangail Bus stand on Dhaka-Aricha Highway here on Friday. Police said the accident occurred when a motorcycle and Dhaka bound passenger bus collided head on. The victims were identified as Niranjan Sikder and his mother Anita Rani Sikder of village Katrasing under Shebalaya upazila of Manikganj district. Neranjan and Anita were returning home after seeing one of their ailing relatives at Ghior by the motorcycle. They were killed on the spot while the driver of the motorcycle suffered critical injury, report BSS.

Phensidyl seized in Jessore

BENAPOLE, July 4 (BSS)-Kotwali Model police seized 130 bottles of Indian contraband phensidyl syrup from Basundia under Sadar upazila of the district on Friday night. Police said, acting on a tip-off, a team of the police conducted a raid to a place adjacent to the railway line in the area and recovered the drug in an abandoned condition.

The recovered drug was handed over to Kotwali police. A general diary was filed in this connection, report BSS.

Motorcyclist killed in Jessore road accident

BENAPOLE (Jessore), July 4 : A motorcyclist was killed when a Benapole bound truck hit his vehicle at Chanchra Mour on the Jessore-Benapole highway under Sadar upazila of the district on Friday night. Police said, Jahangir Mamun, 25, son of Nurul Haque of MM Ali Road in the town met the tragic accident when he was going to Central Bus terminal. The driver and helper of the truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Jessore 250-bed Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed with Kotwali Model thana in this connection, report BSS.
