Our Correspondent, Gaibandha

The patients are not getting health services at Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Health Complex due to shortages of manpower, medicines, X-ray machine, furniture, ambulance, electricity and water supply.

The poor people of ten unions of Shaghata upazila of the district are solely dependent on this health complex. The complex has posts of 136, including doctors and paramedic staff, but there are only 82 staff. The rest 54 posts are lying vacant.

The doctors and the nurses are performing extra-time duty. The complex has ambulance and X-Ray machine, but not in order. Since the ambulance is not in order for long time, it is being difficult to send any serious patient to Gaibandha Sadar hospital or elsewhere.

There is no water supply arrangement in the complex. The toilets are very dirty and almost unusable.

There no enough furniture for the outdoor patients and even doctors. The poor people visiting the complex to get heath services are facing various problems.

A patient Parimal,33, said most of the medicines the doctors of the complex prescribe, have to buy from outside. The quality of food supplied by the complex is also bad.

Dr. Mizanur Rahman, RMO, said the sitting problem of doctors and nurses is old. Moreover, the admitted patients are being supplied water bringing from far away.
