Bumper salt production this year in Cox’s Bazar, farmers frustrated Our Correspondent ,Cox's Bazar Cox's Bazar has produced bumper salt this year, but the marginal farmers were frustrated as the price of salt fell at the field level. They are being deprived of the fair prices. Local BISCIC sources said the district produced an additional 40,000 metric tons(refined) of salt against the target of 1320,000 tons of salt, but the production was 1360,000 tons, which is 40,000 tons more than the target. The sources concerned said it will be possible to store the salt for the bad days. Salt was cultivated on 68,000 acres of land this year in south Chittagong's Bashkhali, and Kutubdia, Mahesh Khali, Chakaria, Ramu, Pekua, Teknaf and Sadar of Cox's Bazar. Over 300,000 marginal farmers were directly or indirectly were involved with salt cultivation. Cox's Bazar was declared by the government as salt producing area, but was not founded separate board like other industries. The salt produced in Cox's Bazar meet the country's demand.
