Ijtema site evictees demand compensation

Owners of the acquisitioned land for Ijtema site in Masimpur Mouja of Tongi industrial area yesterday urged the Prime Minister to meet her election pledge through giving compensation to them.

They stated it at a human chain programme formed in front of the National Press Club.

Though the then DIT (now RAJUK) acquisitioned about 165-acre land in 1965, around two hundred real owners are yet to get compensation till now, they said adding 'even the High Court directed the government to give their compensation on 26 July 1999.'

RAJUK said, in 2001 necessary fund was given to Gazipur Deputy Commissioner to pay them compensation but the district administration said the fund was inadequate, said Md Shamsul Haque, a landowner.

The landowners urged Prime Minister to take necessary steps so that they can get their compensation.
