Western Marine signs deal with GTZ

Western Marine Shipyard Limited has signed a deal with German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) to develop a healthcare centre for its workers and the local community as well.

According to this PPP (Public Private Partnership) deal, the centre styled "WMS Healthy Worker & Community Care Services" will be set up on the premises of Western Marine Shipyard. Apart from serving the Western Marine personnel, the centre will also create health consciousness among the 10,000 people of Kolagaon in Chittagong, where the shipyard is located.

Managing Director of Western Marine Shipyard Sakhawat Hossain and Dr. Andrea Knigge of GTZ signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the shipbuilder's head office in Chittagong recently. Dr Knigge will work as Chief Technical Advisor of Western Marine for the project.

Both the organizations hope that this socio-economic development will prove to be very successful in providing quality healthcare service to the local community in Kolagaon.

GTZ have been supporting the reform of Bangladesh health sector through the Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Program and will remain active in the area of HIV/AIDS.
