Police seizes 500 bottles of phensidyl in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, July 3: Police arrested two youths and seized about 500 bottles of contraband phensidyl from a Dhaka bound private car at Brahmankandi of Madhukhali upazila on Dhaka-Khulna highway this morning. The Additional police super of Faridpur Anisur Rahman told BSS that, acting on secret information, a team of Madhukhali police stopped the running car and found the big consignment of the phensidyl. There were three youths in the car, but during the search one managed to escape. The arrested youths are Md. Selim 25 and Akhtar Hossain Khan, 25, both hailing from Iswardi of Pabna district. Being informed, Police Super Mizanur Rahman and other senior police officials rushed to the spot, reports BSS.



KCC launches eviction drive at 22 canals

KHULNA, July 3: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) this morning launched a drive to remove illegal structures from 22 canals in the city and its adjacent area on Friday. The structures at Sabuzbag of Nirala, Nirala Canal, the Mayur river and its adjacent areas of Gallamari are being demolished. Mayor of the KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek, KCC panel mayor, ward councilors, officers of KCC and members of the civil society, among others, were present during the drive. According to a press release issued by the KCC public relation officer, a meeting was held on February 5 at KCC auditorium for eviction of illegal occupants from the 22 canals in the city. Divisional commissioner, DIG of police, KMP commissioner, deputy commissioner, government officials and member of the civil society, among others, were present while the KCC mayor was in the chair, report BSS.

Bangladesh Scouts holds rally in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, July 3: A big rally was brought out in Manikganj district town under the auspices of Bangladesh Scouts Manikganj district unit. The rally was arranged by the Bangladesh Scouts under its wild life conservation project, which was funded by Asia Pacific Scout Foundation. About two hundred fifty scouts and scout leaders took part in the rally. The participants with colorful festoons and play cards paraded different roads of the town chanting various slogans. After the rally, a discussion was held at on the premises of a local government primary School. MA Monnaf Khan, Commissioner, Bangladesh Scouts Manikganj district was present in the discussion as the chief guest, reports BSS.

Five persons arrested, Viagra seized in Khulna

KHULNA, July 3: Police arrested five persons along with four prostitutes in Khulna City on Tuesday night. Police said, acting on a tip off, a team Khulna Sadar police raided the room no-403 of Azmol International Hotel near the city's Picture Palace Crossing at around 9.30pm and arrested the five including four prostitutes. The arrested are Md. Nasir, Kohinoor alias Beauty, Faria alias Ria, Rani alias Jui and Mishu alias Nazma.

Police also seized eight pieces of Viagra, foreign liquor and unauthorized drugs from the hotel room. Nasir confessed to the police that he has connections with drug peddlers in Khulna division, reports BSS.
