Islami Andolan protests construction of Tipaimukh Dam Staff Reporter Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) held demonstration at Muktangan in the city yesterday in protest against the construction of Tipaimukh dam by India and permitting corridor to India in the name of Asian Highway. Speaker at the rally also demanded removal of Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakrabarti for his controversial remarks on Tipaimukh dam issue and Bangladeshi water experts. City unit President of IAB Prof Moulana ATM Hemayet Uddin presided over the programme while presidium member of the party Moulana Syed Musaddek Billah Al Madani, general secretary Moulana Yunus Ahmed, organising secretary Prof Syed Belayet Hossain, Mohammad Monirul Islam, Syed Ali Mostafa, Mizanur Rahman Milan, Shahidul Islam Kabir, Nazir Ahmed Shibli, among others addressed it. Speakers said that the liberation and sovereignty of the country are not safe at the hands of the present government saying that when India is constructing Tipaimukh dam violating the International River Law, the ministers are supporting it and delivering controversial remarks. They also said that the corridor to India in name of Asian Highway has to be resisted in the interest of the country. The strong movement would be launched, if the government signs the agreement to be connected with the Highway, they threatened. Chief of the party Pirsaheb Chormonai will announce the programme of strong movement at its meeting at Muktangan on July 11, according to party leaders.
