Kitchen market scene: Onion, garlic, fish show uptrend Talha Bin Habib The prices of some essential commodities are yet to reduce in the city' kitchen markets despite reduction of supplementary duties on those commodities in the budget. The onion, garlic and ginger were selling at a high rate in the markets even after the reduction of supplementary duties. The prices of different varieties of fishes and vegetables have shot up despite huge supply of it in the markets. Traders in the city's different markets said the prices of vegetables shot up due to recent rains that hampered smooth supply of it to the markets. Though price of different varieties of rice remain stable but edible oil and lentils showed high trend. The prices of soybean, palm oil and lentil would hopefully come down following the government initiatives to import these commodities before the Ramzan. Potato was sold between Tk 24 and Tk 25 per kg yesterday as against Tk 22 a few weeks ago. A small size Hilsha fish was sold between Tk 300 and Tk 350 while medium size one ranges from Tk 450 to Tk 500. Telapia fish was sold between Tk 130 and Tk 150 per kg while Ruhi fish at Tk 150 to Tk 180. Green chilli was sold at Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kg. Onion was sold between Tk 26 and Tk 28 and imported ones at Tk 18 to Tk 20. Fine quality of garlic was sold between Tk 60 to Tk 70 while imported ones at Tk 30 to Tk 32 per kg. Local variety of ginger was sold between Tk 55 and Tk 60 while imported was at Tk 45 to Tk 50. Coarse variety of rice was sold between Tk 21 and Tk 23 per kg while BR-28 was sold between Tk 25 and Tk 26, Minicate between Tk 31and Tk 32 and Nazirshail at Tk 34 and Tk 38 yesterday. Per kg of loose ata was sold at Tk 20 that was at Tk 19 over the past few weeks. Soybean oil (loose) was sold between Tk 78 and Tk 80 per kg and super palm was between Tk 65 and 68. Masur (lentil) was sold between Tk 100 and Tk Tk104. Tomato was sold at Tk 32 to Tk 35 per kg which was Tk 28 to Tk 30 in the past week. Local quality of onion was sold at Tk 30 and imported one at Tk 22 per kg which was Tk 20 in the previous week.
