Contribution of tested JCD leaders to be evaluated

Staff Reporter

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday said dedicated and tested leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) would be evaluated.

"JCD leaders and workers who have sacrificed for party interest would be properly assessed," he told journalists after placing floral wreaths with the leaders of new committee of JCD at the mazar of party founder shaheed president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.

Replying to a question over the rancour of the new central committee, the secretary general of BNP said there might have some grievances over the new committee.

"The high ups of the party have discussed the matter and chairperson of BNP Begum Khaleda Zia has approved the committee. Now everybody will have to work together in the interest of the party," he added.

Congratulating the new committee leaders, Delwar said the new leadership would strengthen the organisational strength from grassroots to upper level.

The new JCD leaders assembled at the grave before the Juma prayers to take oath. BNP's student affairs secretary Fazlul Haque Milon oversaw the ceremony.

Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, president and Amirul Islam Khan Alim, general secretary, Shahidul Islam Babul, senior vice-president, Amiruzzaman Khan Shimul, joint general secretary, Anisur Rahman Khokon, organising secretary of JCD, Khairul Kabir Khokon, organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Shahid Uddin Chowdhuru Annie MP, former JCD leaders Nazim Uddin Alam, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, former JCD president Azizul Bari Helal and general secretary Shafiul Bari Babu and Rizvi Ahmed, office secretary of BNP among others, were present.

Earlier on Wednesday BNP high ups announced the new committee. A JCD faction rejected the committee on Thursday. They brought out a protest rally on the Dhaka University campus chanting slogans and declaring 'non-cooperation' with the new leaders of JCD.
