UNB, Dhaka

A parliamentary watchdog body yesterday suggested the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to ensure the supply of pure drinking water, installation of proper sewerage lines and reducing water logging in and adjacent areas of the capital city.

The suggestions came from a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on LGRD and Cooperative Ministry held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Adv M Rahmat Ali in the chair.

A report on detailed activities of Dhaka Wasa was placed at the meeting.

The committee also directed the authorities concerned to submit a report in its next meeting on irregularities, if any, in recruitment of Wasa officials, their transfer and promotion, and employment of contractors.

Besides, the Local Government (City Corporation) Bill-2009 was finalized at the meeting after scrutiny.

Committee members Nur-E-Alam Chowdhury, Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, AKM Mostafizur Rahman, M Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, M Manwar Hossain Chowdhury and M Abul Khair Bhuiyan took part in the meeting.
