Police, in separate drives, arrested three suspected members of banned militant outfit Jam'atul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) from two villages in Tala upazila early yesterday.

The arrested were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 45, of Daunipara village, Sazzad Mahmud, 52, and his son Akramul Islam, 22, of Sumujdipur village.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch police, led by Police Super SM Maniruzzaman, conducted the drives at about 3am and arrested the JMB suspects.

Seventy jihadi leaflets from the house of Rafiq and another 15 from Sazzad's house were recovered.

However, locals claimed that the arrested were innocent people. "They have no link with militancy," they said.
