The Rajshahi Rakhha Sangram Parishad (RRSP) staged an hour-long human-chain program here Wednesday demanding special budgetary allocation for development of the region along with removing the regional disparity.

Addressing the post-human chain brief meeting held at Shaheb Bazar Zero point area at 11 am, the speakers said expected development of the region could not be possible without special allocation and urged the government to take necessary step in this regard.

RRSP convenor Jamat Khan, Advisers Liakat Ali, Prof Fazlul Haque, Tasiqul Alam Bakul, Akbarul Hassan Millat and members Proshanta Shaha, Md Sharif, Abul Kalam Azad, Golam Mostofa Mamun, Sufiya Islam and Sayeed Chowdhury addressed the meeting, among others.

They said need-based step should be taken to protect the region including its vast tract of barind area from desertification and implement the proposed North Rajshahi Irrigation Project for reducing the pressure on groundwater for irrigation purposes.
