Jalil questions role of PM’s advisers: Army being turned into trading machine, he says

Apparently relegated to non-functional general secretary of the ruling Awami League, Abdul Jalil MP yesterday questioned the roles of the numerous advisers to the Prime Minister and the functions of the country's armed forces.
"Despite huge mandate given in the December 29 election, this government has become heavily dependent on retired bureaucrats," he said throwing salvos at the PM's Advisers who happen to be all former bureaucrats.
Jalil, a former minister who failed to get a berth in the Sheikh Hasina cabinet this time around, said the Prime Minister can appoint any person as her Adviser but Advisers cannot sit in cabinet meeting.

JS sub-committee formed to probe complaints : More an anger than an allegation: Mainul

Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works yesterday formed a five-member sub-committee to probe alleged irregularities and corruption by former Adviser of the Caretaker Government Barrister Mainul Hosein.
The sub-committee was formed at the meeting of the Standing Committee at Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair.
Among others, the meeting was attended by State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, Nure-e-Alam Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdus Sattar, Asaduzzaman Khan, Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan Mohon, Nasrul Hamid and Enamul Haque.

Country suffers Tk 150 cr yearly loss: 5000 foreign experts working in RMG sector

More than five thousand foreign nationals are working in the country's readymade garment sector who are being paid between Tk 2 lakh and Tk 5 lakh each per month.
Most of them are from India and Sri Lanka who are mainly engaged in fashion designing.
Local fashion designers, who work as their helping hands, said they were being paid very low salaries comparing to those of the foreigners.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) officials said Bangladesh is depending on foreign workers in fashion designing due to lack of adequate skilled local manpower.

People's unity, movement urged against Tipaimukh

Speakers at a roundtable in the city yesterday urged the people to forge strong national unity for movement against India's proposed Tipaimuk Dam project.
Criticising a recent speech of Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakraborty on the project, they demanded his withdrawal from Bangladesh.
They threatened that they would go for agitation if the government fails to lodge strong protest against the project.
Islami Okyajote organised the roundtable discussion with its chairman Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini in the chair at the National Press Club in the city.
