Bahauddin Nasim acquitted in extortion case

Awami Sechchasebak League President Bahauddin Nasim was acquitted in another case yesterday filed for extortion.

His brother Khalid Hossain was also acquitted in the case. Judge Md Nurul Islam of the Metropolitan Subordinate Judge's Sixth Court of Dhaka passed the acquittal order in presence of both accused.

On August 1,2007 Ali Master, proprieter of a Steel Mills company in Sympaur of the city lodged the complaint. ?The complainant said, Nasim wanted Taka fifty lakh from him to manage the nomination of Awami League for the January 22 election, 2007. Nasim as the APS of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina wanted the money.

At this the complainant was frightened and agreed to give Taka twenty-five lakh and later he gave a cheque of Taka ten lakh.

Nasim brother Khalid took another cheque of Taka fifteen lakh.

The Investigation Officer (IO) completed his inquiry and submitted the chargesheet against Nasim and Khalid.

The Judge recorded the deposition of seven witnesses during the trial process.
