Illegal termination of employees to be resolved lawfully: Hasina

BSS, Dhaka

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday categorically said, the cases of illegal termination from services, harassment and repression committed by BNP-Jamaat alliance government on the innocent people and government employees during its 2001-2006 regime would be resolved through the legal course.

"The illegal termination from services, atrocities and harassment, which were carried out on innocent people as well as government employees by BNP-Jamaat alliance government during 2001-2006 can not be expressed in words," she said.

The Prime Minister said this when leaders of Bangladesh Sachibalaya Karmachari Sangjukto Parishad led by President of the organisation Aaraj Ali called on her at her secretariat office here.

Listing various programmes undertaken by her government for the welfare of people, Sheikh Hasina said, her government has a plan to introduce rationing system for the lower income group people of the country.

In this context, she said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after assuming office had also introduced rationing system along with fair price shops across the country.

"Later, these pro-people programmes were suspended by the then President Zia's government," she added. In the meeting, the employees leaders apprised the Prime Minister of various atrocities and harassment carried on government employees including illegal termination from services during the BNP-Jamaat led alliance regime from 2001-2006.

Sheikh Hasina gave them a patience hearing and said, law will take its own course for such political atrocities, harassment and illegal termination from services due to political considerations.

"The government employees do not belong to any party, they are serving the republic. So, it not acceptable to carry out any atrocities on them for their personal belief," she added.

In this context, she said that no body raised any allegations against the 1996-2001 Awami League government for carrying out such harassment on the people who have different political beliefs.

Referring to a blue print election, the Prime Minister said, the BNP-Jamaat alliance government wanted to hold a farcical polls in a bid to regain power. But, she said, they could not fulfill their desire as the past caretaker government with the help of Bangladesh Army prepared a flawless voter list ahead of the December polls.

She said, the Awami led Mohajote (grand alliance) formed the government with overwhelming victory in a free, fair and credible elections held in December. She said, the people of the country gave huge responsibility on the government to fulfill their hopes and aspirations through casting their votes in favour of Mohajote candaidates. Sheikh Hasina said, the government will put its best efforts in ensuring a quality living standard for the people of Bangladesh despite its resources constraints. " If we work hard and ceaselessly, we will be able to ensure a better life for our people," she hoped.

Referring to the prices of essentials, the Prime Minister said that her government had already been able to bring prices of essential commodities within the purchasing capacity of general people as per the party's election manifesto.

She said her government is working relentless for establishing a happy and prosperous Bangladesh by 2021 after ensuring all basic rights of its people.

Secretary General of the Parishad Ruhul Amin and Executive President Nizamul Islam Bhuiyan, among others, were in the delegation.

Cabine Secretary M Abdul Aziz, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Mollah Waheeduzzaman and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad were present of the occasion.
