Ctg arms haul Court order to complete TI parade for Liakat

BSS, Chittagong

A court here on Sunday ordered to complete Test Identification (TI) Parade for detained former Deputy Director (DD) of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) Major (Retd.) Liakat Hossain, a prime suspect in hiring trucks introducing him as Abul Hossain in the sensational ten truckloads of arms and ammunition haul case in April 1 2004.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abdur Rab ordered to complete TI parade in presence of another judicial Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman on June 24 inside the Chittagong jail. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced Major (Retd.) Liakat before the court yesterday and sought TI Parade for Major Liakat.

Earlier, Liakat was arrested by CID on the basis of another NSI DD Shahab Uddin from his Dhaka residence last month. CID took Liakat to two times remand for nine days.

During his remand Major Liakat informed the court and CID that he knows nothing about the incident of arms hauls as his service was placed to Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 22 in 2004 for posting at Bangladesh High Commission in London.

But CID suspected that Liakat hired trucks introducing him as one Abul Hossain. For this reason CID arranged TI parade for Liakat, the source added.

On the other hand, ex-Deputy Director Major (retd.) Liakat was taken to the chamber of Magistrate Mohammad Osman Gani on June 7 for giving confessional statement as he initially agreed to give confession.

But he suddenly refused to give confession when Magistrate Mohammad Osman Gani started to record his confession.

Meanwhile, the lawyers of detained another former chief of NSI Major General (Retd.) Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury filed a bail prayer to the district Sessions Judge Bhabani Prashad Sing.

The court will hear it today.
