Chehlum of Wazed Mia held BSS, Pirganj Thousands of common people, politicians, ministers and lawmakers prayed for divine blessings and eternal peace of Dr MA Wajed Mia at his chehlum in his paternal village Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila here on Friday. With the assistance of the family members of Dr Wajed Mia, Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, Chittagong City Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury arranged the chehlum of the nuclear scientist with international repute and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband at Fatehpur village here through day-long programmes. The programmes included offering Fateha, Qurankhwani, milad and doa mahfils, placing of floral wreaths at the grave of Dr Wajed and feeding over 60,000 people at three venues of nearby Laldighee School, Bajitpur School and Fatehpur village since the morning. Former President and JP Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Shipping Minister Dr M Afsarul Amin, State Ministers for Primary and Mass Education Motahar Hossain and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Captain (Retd) ABM Tajul Islam, placed floral wreaths at the grave. HN Ashikur Rahman MP, Sheikh Helal Uddin MP, JP Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawladar MP, Abul Kalam Azad MP, Mahbub Ara Guenie MP, President of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahbub Hassan Ripan, its vice- president Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon, also placed the wreaths. Private Secretaries to the PM Nazir Hossain and Selina Rahman, senior leaders of AL and its front organisations including Shah Abdur Razzaque, Abul Mansur Ahmed, Adv Rezaul Karim Raju, Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, Moazzem Hossain Lablu, central leaders Adv Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Faruk Hossain, Nazmul Hassan Litan, were present. Alhaj Moulavi Abdul Khaleque Mia, elder bother of Dr Wajed Mia, Son of Dr Wajed's elder sister Shahidul Islam Pintoo, nephews Shahadat Hossain Bakul and Engineer Sayeed Reza Shanto and all family members and villagers took part in the Milad and Doa Mahfils. Besides, huge number of veteran politicians, Freedom Fighters, educationists, elite, scientists, academics, intellectuals, young generations, students, farmers, thousands of common people from all over the region took part in the Milad and Doa Mahfils. Host (Mezban) Chittagong City Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury could not attend the chehlum due to his illness, but huge number of the leaders of AL and its front organisations of Chittagong led by Khurshed Alam Shujan and Enamul Haque Danu took part on his behalf. After the Qurankwhani, Fateha, Milad and Doa Mahfils in the morning, the organisers started feeding over 60,000 people at these three venues and other adjoining areas and 67 cows and goats were slaughtered to provide the people with improved foods. Family members of late Dr Wazed Mia thanked all people, politicians, relatives and well-wishers for taking part in the Milad and Doa mahfils and offering prayers seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of Dr Wajed Mia at the Milad and Doa mahfils. While talking to BSS at Fatehpur, the common people also conveyed their condolences to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajib Wajed Joy, Sayma Wajed Putul and other family members and paid their deep respects to the departed soul of the great son of the soil. They termed Dr Wajed as a greedless man with excellent human qualities who served the nation selflessly with the highest degree of patriotism, love and passion as he never thought anything for himself and asked the Almighty for granting him Zannatul Ferdous. The country incurred an irreparable loss by losing its one of the best sons and most talented scientist with international repute through the death of Dr Wajed Mia, who was a completely honest and humble man by character, deeds, thoughts and beliefs, they said. While talking to BSS, a number of veteran politicians said that the country and its people will ever remember its great son and scientist Dr Wajed Mia, who always thought for the welfare of the country and its people. While talking to BSS, the people including politicians, educationists, students, lawyers, businessmen community and women leaders, socio-cultural activists, professionals, workers and farmers irrespective of their caste and creed today prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of their beloved son and nuclear scientist. And thus thousands of people again paid their heart-felt respects to eminent nuclear scientist Dr MA Wajed Mia at his place of eternal rest beside his parents' graves in ancestral Fatehpur village here today.
