At least 13 people, including a lawyer, were killed and 42 others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Barisal, Noakhali, Lalmonirhat, Brahmanbaria, Bogra and Sirajganj districts yesterday.

In Gazipur, three people were killed and two others injured in two road crashes in Sreepur and Kaliakoir upazilas.

Police and witnesses said, a Mymensingh-bound covered van ploughed through a rickshaw in C&B Bazar area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila at about 8am, killing its passengers Siddique and Bahadur on the spot and injuring two others.

In another accident, an unidentified woman was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Kharajora in Kaliakoir upazila in the morning.

UNB Barisal correspondent adds: Two people, including a lawyer, were killed and 10 others injured in separate accidents in Sadar and Gournadi upazilas.

Police said a bus smashed motorcyclist Advocate Golam Sarwar Badal, 44, in Goriarpar area on the outskirts of city at about 11am, killing him on the spot.

In another accident, a passenger coach of 'Sohag Paribahan’ skidded off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch in Sharifabad area in Gournadi upazila at about 12:30pm.

The accident left a pedestrian Marjina Begum, 38, dead on the spot and 10 other people injured.

The injured were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.

In Noakhali, a pick-up van rammed into a rickshaw in front of Shahid Bhulu Stadium gate in the district town at the noon, killing two people, including a schoolgirl, and injuring two others.

The deceased were identified as rickshaw-puller Abdul Motaleb, 22, and Bhabna Shil, 11, a class V student of a local school.

Police said the pick-up van smashed the rickshaw while three girls were returning home from the local Shilpakala Academy at about 12:30pm. Motaleb and Bhabna died on the scene.

Injured Manika Rani Dey, 11, and Swarna Shaha, 14, were admitted to district General Hospital.

Police seized the pick-up van and arrested its driver Jakir Hossain and helper Mamun.

In Lalmonirhat, a motorcyclist Anisur Rahman was killed as a speedy truck rammed his bike in Aiar Khamar area in Sadar upazila at about 11am.

UNB Brahmanbaria correspondent reports, another motorcyclist, Manik, 40, was killed as a truck hit his bike at Bagoir in Ashuganj upazila in the evening.

In Sirajganj, two persons were killed and 13 others injured in two road accidents in Sadar upazila in the morning.

Police said a pedestrian Kala Chand, 25, died on the spot as a speeding bus hit him at Amgati in the upazila at about 10:30am.

At least 13 bus passengers were also injured in the accident.

In another incident, an unidentified man was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck on Bogra-Nagarbari highway near Baghabari bridge at about 11am.

Nine of the injured were admitted to Sadar hospital where condition of three people, including the bus driver, was stated to be critical.

In Bogra, two men were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Kashipara crossing in Sherpur upazila in the morning.

Witnesses said Tarajul Islam, 22, and Bidyut Kumar Roy, 60, died on the spot as a bus ran them over.

Five bus passengers were also injured as it overturned into a roadside ditch after hitting the two men.
