Obama calls for new beginning with Muslims: Cycle of suspicion, discord must end

President Barack Obama has said the "cycle of suspicion and discord" between the United States and the Muslim world must end.
In a keynote speech in Cairo, Obama called for a "new beginning" in ties.
He admitted there had been "years of distrust" and said both sides needed to make a "sustained effortt to respect one another and seek common ground".
Obama said the US bond with Israel was unbreakable but described the Palestinians' plight as "intolerable".
The president made a number of references to the Koran and called on all faiths to live together in peace.

Lt. Gen Mubin new Army Chief: Takes charge on June 15

The government has named Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Mubin as new army chief of staff.
General Mubin will replace General Moeen U Ahmed, who since June last year has been on a year of extension of services. The extension took effect on June 15 last year and ends on June 15 next.
Confirming this, a senior official of Prime Minister's office said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed the appointment letter yesterday.

The ICC World Twenty20 starts today at the Lord's in London, the capital city of England. Host England will take on Netherlands in the inaugural match of the sensational cricket meet, today at 10.30 PM BST (Bangladesh Standard Time).
A total of 12 teams splitting into four groups are taking part in the 17-day long cricket tournament.
Bangladesh, India, Ireland have been pencilled in Group A while host England, Pakistan, Netherlands have been placed in Group B and Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies have been slatted in Group C and New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland have

been slatted in Group D.

REHAB Fair begins: Joint venture to resolve housing problems urged

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan on Thursday called for setting up public-private join ventures for resolving housing problems.
Referring to the election manifesto of Awami League, he said the present government wants to ensure housing facilities
for all by 2015 with the concerted efforts by all.
The state minister was addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day REHAB Summer Fair-2009 at Hotel Sheraton.
President of REHAB (Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh) Engineer Tanveerul Haque Probal presided over the function.
