Deal signed for updating National Water Resources Database

An agreement was signed between Water Resources Planning Organization (WARPO) and Center for Environment and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) for consultancy services on maintenance, updating and dissemination of National Water Resources Database (NWRD).

Executive Director of the CEGIS Giasuddin Ahmed Choudhury and Director (Planning) of WARPO Md. Shahjahan signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations in the conference room of WARPO here on Tuesday.

Joint Secretary of the Water Resources Ministry Narayan Chandra Dey, Director General of the WARPO Jalal Uddin Md. Abdul Hai and Project Director Mollah Ruhul Alam, among others, were present on the occasion.

Under the component 3B: WARPO Institutional Improvement of the WHIP, the National Water Resources Database (NWRD) is going to be undated. NWRD is the largest spatial database in the water sector Bangladesh, officials said.

They also said that the primary objective of the project is to meet the demand for water resources planners by continuos updating of the existing database and enhancing it with more information and transforming it to the knowledge base information.

The major activities to be carried out under this project are to update NWRD, finalize quality control guidelines for temporal and spatial data and provide IT supports, the officials said.
