BRTA takes measures to check public harassment

BSS, Dhaka

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office of Dhaka South at Ekuria, other bank of the river Buriganga in Keraniganj has taken various modern measures in issuing driving license, vehicle registration and fitness to check public harassment.

Deputy Director of BRTA South Mesbah Uddin on Tuesday told BSS that they have taken the initiative as per the directives of the Communication Ministry to bring all BRTA activities in digital system.

The measures included introducing one stop service, establishing information booth, building restrooms and high wall for ensuring the security of the vehicles.

"Our main goal to provide standard customer services and prevent them from any kind of harassment due to agents," Mesbah said.

BRTA sources said the BRTA Dhaka South is giving fitness certificate to 1,500 vehicles, issuing registration or transfer of ownership to 30 vehicles and 25 learner licenses daily through seven officers and 11 permanent staffs.

Another sources said vehicles of Paltan, Sabujbag, Kotwali, Demra, Motijheel, Shampur, Lalbagh, Kamrangichar, Hajaribagh and Shahbag of the Dhaka city suppose to go to BRTA Dhaka South office but due to long distance of he office from the city, many vehicles of those areas go to Mirpur BRTA office.

For this reason, though the BRTA Dhaka South Officer began its activities after 10 years back, only around 50,000 vehicles so far got registration from here, it said.
