Staff Reporter

The district level commanders of liberation war yesterday demanded holding of council of Bangladesh Muktojoddha Central Command within a month to resolve intra-party dispute across the country.

The commanders placed this demand at a press conference organised by district commanders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) auditorium. Badaruzzaman Badar, Gopalgonj district commander, read out a written statement.

He said that the freedom fighters across the country are eagerly looking forward to holding of the national council of Bangladesh Muktojoddha Central Command, which plays an important role in securing the rights of the freedom fighters.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formed a seven member convening committee and asked it to hold national council with the shortest possible time. But the committee members are not keen to hold national council fearing losing of power, Badar alleged.

He pointed out that the convening committee could not make any progress during the last two months for holding the council. " We will give the one more month. Afterward we will decide next course of plan to hold the council," he informed.

Badar also blamed Major Genaral (retd) Helal Morshed, chief of the convening committee, for the unusual delay in holding the council.

He alleged that the committee is killing time under the pretext of preparing new freedom fighter list, as the national council election will be held by the participation of all enlisted voters.

He termed the drafting of new voter list a time killing process.

He said that thousands of fake freedom fighters who were enlisted illegally during the BNP-Jamaat government, are enjoying extra facilities. "I want to draw Prime Minister's attention these irregularities," he added.

Nogoan district commander Abul Kalam Azad, Tangail district commander Kazi Ashraf Humayan Bangal, Kustia district commander Manik Kumar Gosh, among others, were present in the press conference.
